昆士兰华人博物馆

The idea of establishing a museum to celebrate Chinese heritage was brought up by members of the Queensland Chinese Forum (QCF) in 2000, as recorded in the minutes of their General Meeting held on November 7, 2000.

With the aim to establish the first Chinese Museum in Queensland, a Steering Committee was formed in October 2003. On 26 November 2004, Chinese Museum of Queensland (CMoQ) became a registered association and Peter Low was elected as its Founding President. The Chinese Museum of Queensland is also registered with the Australian Charities and Not-for-Profits Commission (ACNC).

The objectives of CMoQ are:

  1. To operate a museum promoting an appreciation of Chinese artifacts, culture, and the role and contributions of the Chinese in Queensland in particular and Australia in general.

  2. To develop partnerships with other museums and historical and heritage organizations.

  3. To foster an understanding of the history of the Chinese in Queensland in particular and Australia in general.

  4. To do all such things as are conducive or incidental to the aims and objects set out above.

The museum received a grant from the Brisbane City Council (BCC) in February 2006.

In October 2009, CMoQ co-hosted a conference with the Queensland Chinese Forum in the Premiers' & Speakers' Halls, Parliament House Annex, Brisbane to commemorate 160 years of Chinese settlement in Queensland and 150 years of the State of Queensland. Supported by the Q150 Community Funding Program, a 6-part video documentary was produced.

At the 2009 AGM, the CMoQ Committee decided to focus its resources and energy on raising the museum's profile and developing sponsorship interest from government, businesses, and individuals. This included developing a permanent and professional website for the virtual museum.

CMoQ is governed by a Management Committee made up of volunteers.
